ADI Smart Motor Sensor

Summary

Project Overview:
ADI OtoSense Smart Motor Sensor is an AI-based, hardware and software solution for monitoring motor conditions. The service notifies users if a failure starts and guides them on how to fix it.

Company:
Analog Devices, 2023

Tools:
UXPin, Miro, MailChimp

Team:
I initially worked with a combined web and mobile team, which consisted of designers, front-end developers, cloud architects, and hardware engineers, and project management. Eventually we were split into cross-functional teams. I became the UX designer for the Web team, working with 2 front-end developers, a UI designer, and a project manager.

Platform:
Native mobile apps & responsive web

My Contribution:
My main responsibilities while working on the dashboard included: facilitating workshops, creating user journey maps, running user interviews, wireframe design, prototype creation, and usability testing. As part of this, I worked very closely with our project managers, front end developers, and a visual designer; as part of a cross functional team. One of our main projects was to help implement a machine learning based update. This involved working with a mix of hardware and software teams using the information gathered during a discovery phase. As the UX designer, my role covered the design of the web-based tool, an e-commerce website, and email templates.

Process

UI Redesign:
The first stage of this project was a complete redesign of the existing UI. The goal of this was to match the existing product with Analog Devices branding, fix usability issues, and give the tool a more modern feel. I began this stage by mapping out every page of the web and mobile apps and the flows between sections. I also ran user testing to gather feedback on the existing product and any initial wireframes. I redesigned the web dashboard and mobile app by improving the UX of the navigation, adding the Analog Devices branding, and working closely with a visual designer to create new images and assets. These design decisions were based on user feedback and branding guidelines. I then handed over the designs to our development team and worked closely with them during implementation.

New Features:
After the initial redesign, we focused on improving the product and adding new features. For this stage I worked very closely with the project manager and we facilitated multiple workshops. These workshops included: prioritising session, name brainstorming, customer journey mapping, and storyboarding. These workshops included all members of the team, including front-end developers, cloud architects, and hardware engineers. I also ran multiple rounds of user testing and user interviews, to gather feedback on what was implemented and on our ideas for new features. The main new features I worked on where: creating a version of the tool that white-label partners could use to add their own branding to, an e-commerce website to sell trial kits, and a machine learning based update. The machine learning update was a complex new feature where we had to simplify on the UI to make it easier for the users to understand. This included simplified guidelines on the web dashboard and mobile apps, and email and push notifications to give step-by-step instructions and status updates. For all new features I worked very closely with all internal stakeholders, customers, and end-users.
